Overcomers Church of God in Christ was founded by the late Pastor Aaron Howard in November 2001. Pastor Howard was moved by God to establish a church in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw community where he served faithfully until his transition in May 2016.

Pastor Howard's wife, Althea Howard was directed by the Lord to assume the leadership of Overcomers Church of God in Christ as the Lord directed Joshua to lead the children of Israel after the death of his servant Moses. The purpose of the church is to reach the lost to bring them into the life that God originally planned for them at the beginning of creation.  The mission of the church is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ so that many souls will be saved and experience life eternal.

Pastor Howard was born in Money, Mississippi and was one of eleven children born to Supt. David Howard Sr. and Ora Howard.  His father moved the family to Warren, Ohio after the murder of Emmett Till and Pastor Howard subsequently left Ohio and moved to California to pursue a graduate degree in art. While in California, he married the love of his life, Althea Sims Howard and made California his home.

Through his father's love for the church, Pastor Howard developed a love for Church of God in Christ History. In November 2015 at the 108th Annual Holy Convocation during the COGIC Scholars Banquet, Dr. Raynard Smith presented Pastor Howard an award for outstanding achievement as Church Historian.

In 1981, Pastor Howard was ordained by Bishop J. A. Blake. He served in ministry in various capacities in the church.  Among a few, Pastor Howard served on the local level as Assistant Pastor, Y.P.W.W. President and Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and President of the Canvassing Committee. On the State level he served as State Y.W.W.W. Historian, State Sunday School Superintendent (Second Jurisdiction) and was Chairman of six Souvenir Journal Committees.  He also served as a member of the First Jurisdiction Ordination Board.

Pastor Howard was a member of the Society for Pentecostal Studies, a member of COGIC Scholars and was invited to become a member of C.H. Mason Historical Society. One of his proudest accomplishments was having the Azusa Street sign replaced at the Japanese Cultural Center in downtown Los Angeles, California.

Pastor Howard received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California.  He was employed as a graphic designer with the Los Angeles Times Home Magazine and served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Artist in Vietnam.

The Lord called him home, May 28, 2016.
